I have the same issue with Kubuntu I run 1280x800 widescreen my hardware is Lenovo T61 Kubuntu Intrepid 64bit Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 / 2 GHz, 2 GB DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M PCI Express, Wireless 3945ABG
I have to remove the quiet splash to boot, I sometimes get red & white stripes & sometimes I get the black screen of death! When I get the black screen I have to hard reset the PC as it is totally locked up & I cant alt + F2 etc to get to a console. I can send any logs if you want.
