Hi this is my first ever post to a ubuntu / launchpad forum. I am having the exact same problem with Ubuntu 8.10. I have found that turning off the spi firewall in my Netgear WPN824 seems to fix it. However the system update manager is still running very slow. Everything worked fine in Hardy, which i used on the same computer previously (an eepc 900). However my house mate wants the spi firewall on, so i cant use internet :(
