It happened with all 4 updates of today (login 1:4.0.13-7ubuntu3 , passwd 1:4.0.13-7ubuntu3, ppp 2.4.4b1-1ubuntu3, xserver-xorg-input-mouse 1:1.0.3.1+cvs.20060109-0ubuntu1). The affected desktops all use binary nvidia drivers (nvidia-glx 1.0.8762+2.6.15.11-2) on Quadro FX 540's. Will be back there tomorrow to check if vesa/nv drivers fix it. However, if the binary nvidida driver is a factor, it is not a sufficient factor.
