If you mean that this happens before seeing the progress bar of upstart, that's 
indeed okay since afaik it's Mac's openfirmware which has a white background. 
If you've still a Mac OS X installed and try bailing out in openfirmware before 
the operating system loads, you'll see the same (for example, keep "O" pressed 
at boot).
In other words, it's all right to happen, and not a bug.

Else, please say more or less exactly *when* this happens. I'm not sure
Xorg is involved.
