The light was on again when I booted up this afternoon. I did something yesterday I hadn't done in awhile; I used the CD drive (to play a CD).
I reached down and hit the CD drive eject button (eject -t /dev/scd2 doesn't work for me), and the light immediately flickers and works correctly.
