However, if the problem is just a faulty Ubuntu install, you may first want to try just re-installing it. Give it a try! If you follow the same steps taken to install from the Ubuntu CD, when you get to the partition editor, choose 'manual'. You will see the partitions Ubuntu is installed on (/, /home, /usr, swap normally). Just select each and 'Edit Partition). under the 'Use As' list, re-select the proper partition (/, /home, etc.) only on the /home partition, leave the box next to 'Format Partition?' unchecked. This should reinstall Ubuntu, leaving any files you had stored in your /home partition. (It did for me, anyways) Ubuntu is sometimes difficult to get installed properly, but I have found that once it is, it blows Windows out of the water!
