Hi NJ, I unduped this since I wanted to close the other one, which was resolved 
for the original reporter and got a bit long anyway. To summarize what I took 
from the other bug:
- your touchpad is not detected by the kernel in any way (that mouse that shows 
up is a external USB one)
- i8042.noloop=1 doesn't help you

Can you try to boot with "i8042.debug=1" and post the dmesg of that run
(more usefull if this catches the beginning of the i8042 messages). At
least with a detected touchpad this is hard, since that gets a bit
noisy.
