Now working on a machine where I can adjust font again, I can add that I was doing a dist-upgrade when this occurred and it has clobbered my main workstation, though I seem to have some functions, including terminal.
Since sending log files, I have been making some progress using cycles of (after su) apt-get install -f and apt-get dist-upgrade Every so often a pkg complains, but it seems to get a bit further each time. The workstation had a lot of s/w installed, and I had been trying Gnome builds. It's possible that despite efforts to localize the builds, some scripts or libraries were altered in the main distro files. That was why I was upgrading. It seems possible that this may be cause of breakage. JN Martin-Éric Racine wrote: > The log output that you pasted clearly instructed you to file a bug > against 'update-manager'.
