Had the same problem with kernel 2.6.24-21-generic when it was in the proposed updates. Gave bug report then about the issue. The kernel update I got a few minutes ago to 2.6.24-21-generic has again disabled/ knocked out/OS no longer recognizes the sound card. I don't have a dell (intimated above that it only happens to dell computers). Mine is a self-built computer gigabyte ma770 -ds3 motherboard, asus nvidia 8600gt gpu, 2gb ram, wd hard drives.
