The problem seems to come an unexisting script file, see the end of the given 
dpkg log:
Setting up cupsys (1.2.8-0ubuntu8) ...
ln: accessing `/usr/lib/cups/backend-available/dnssd': No such file or 
directory.


On Ubuntu 8.04 I have the script dnssd.
How did you make the downgrade?
Did you try to reinstall cupsys (1.2.8)?
