Hi Spike, Thanks for your answer. I read the thread above. It looks like the one in French I followed. However, I noticed that I didnt' install the very last version of the madwifi driver. The procedure I followed pointed me on a patched version of the driver: madwifi- hal-0.10.5.6-r3835-20080801.tar.gz. It worked well with the previous kernel version (2.6.24-19-generic), but not anymore with the new one (2.6.24-21-generic). I do not have clear evidence of the cause; it's just a feeling.
Your comment gave me a hint: 1) uninstall my current madwifi dirver (madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3835-20080801.tar.gz). 2) install the last one (dated on September 3rd: madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-current.tar.gz). 3) test the "new" driver with both kernel versions. As this issue is quite sensitive for the stability of my laptop, I need to make a backup before the tests above. I will keep you informed.
