I don't have any problems with (Adobe) flash player in Firefox for amd64 (Ubuntu 8.04).
You must just remove (first) all installed flash plugins and then install Ubuntu restricted extras or just open www.youtube.com and plugin flash (Adobe) with Firefox Browser present.
