Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

Kubuntu Hardy, KDE4.1, 64bit
external harddddisk WDElements 500GB, usb 2.0
Epson Perfection V100 Photo Scanner, usb 2.0
keyboard usb, mouse usb

Problem (reproducible):

Freezing of the complete PC (not only keyboard or mouse), when transferring
huge data files (e.g) a vmware image to the external disk or scanning (e.g)
books with higher resolution. If I start a vmware engine (windows 2000) and
try to scan with the propriate software of Epson, I have the same effect, that
my vm engine freezes and if I'm not outside of this engine, I can't leave it
anymore and I have to reset the PC.
In my opinion, this problem is related to the hal. Also I had the problem with
the external disk on a certain usb port of my PC, the it was resetted every few
seconds and the device manager applet popped up. The problem has been solved by
changing the usb port. I don't know, why.

** Affects: hal (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
