Hi Again, I managed to get my sound back by editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base . I added
options snd-hda-intel model=<model> to the end and it now works. a list of available types for <model> is in /usr/share/doc/alsa- base/driver/ALSA-Configuration.txt.gz , in the snd-hda-intel section I didn't have to do this previously (Hardy), so I guess autodetection may be broken.
