This problem was recently discussed on IRC. We discovered a workaround, when installing add pci=nomsi as a kernal parameter. Once installed add the same parameter to the kernal from grub, this will enable you to boot, you can then add the same parameter to your menu.lst in the /etc/grub folder to make it permanent.
This worked on Hardy.
