The bug is very much NOT fixed at least on my system. Fully updated intrepid, last checked minutes ago.
Can someone tell what package is responsible for osd-handling when volume is changed? I have filed another bugreport 286102 "brightness-keys react slowly" which I believe is related, and which also has this osd window showing up.
