Hello
I made a fresh install of Realplayer from a .bin file I downloaded, and
here's the whole process from the terminal:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cd '/home/nelson/Escritorio'
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Escritorio$ chmod a+x RealPlayer11GOLD.bin
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Escritorio$ sudo ./RealPlayer11GOLD.bin

After the installation I ran Realplayer, tried to play a rmvb file and it
crashed. I had no problem when playing the same file with MPlayer and
KMPlayer.
The output for "apt-cache policy realplayer" is:

realplayer:
Instalados: (ninguno)
Candidato: (ninguno)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ *
("Ninguno" means "none")
