I am experiencing a similar issue on my Sony Vaio VGN-FW140E (GM45/x4500mhd). I've tried compiling and installing the latest intel drivers (2.5.0) - they installed successfully - but still didn't fix the problem. VGA output works fine, but LVDS is useless. When X starts, the screen flashes white, then slowly fades with a gray grid-like pattern. Vesa works fine, but is very limiting.
Please help!
