I completed another successful install with the Wacom tablet unplugged and without touching anything to verify that the screen blanking was not involved. I then shut it down after logging into the new system and verifying there were no errors and shut it down. I plugged the Wacom tablet back in and started another install from the CD menu. It copied files and then at some point after that (reconfiguring hardware, perhaps?), the X error window appeared. It looks like it is thus a problem with the tablet during the installation rather than the video card.
