As expected, gxine doesn't help. Is there anything special about gxine? I've been running fine with above mentioned fix (option to snd_hda_intel module), only problem is that plugging in a headphone doesn't turn off the loudspeaker (and the volume can't be set independently). I'd be nice if someone else could confirm if this works for them.
