Same problem here, with sony vaio fw-140e. I tried Hardy, Intrepid (alpha, beta, rc), fedora 9 and kernel 2.6.27 from git, installing intel drivers 2.4.x with apt and compiling 2.5 from source. could it be related with bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/268615 and finally with https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17292 ???
