As stated by the error message, it seems that the directory "/usr/src/linux-2.6.27-7-generic" is missing. Maybe it is the Mandriva directory. Have you tried the "2.6.20-27" release, the install script is corrected to handle by default Ubuntu. If it works, I would like you to test with V4l1 viewer (Camorama for example) and v4l2 (Ekiga, etc). Maybe there is a trouble with v4l2 management, this could explain with it is OK with Camorama and KO with Cheese. Tell me also if you are 32 or 64bits.
