Yes, the bug is obviously fixed now - I haven't noticed. The Gimp user guide doesn't mention this handy way of installing the plugins, and the package name "A repository of optional extensions for The GIMP" is somewhat misleading. Perhaps I should contact Gimp documentation people about this.
