i can confirm this is the case. when auto wlan0 is set. it takes one
full timeout to continue booting.

uname -a: 
Linux lappy 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Fri Oct 24 06:42:44 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

interfaces:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface wlan0 inet dhcp
auto wlan0

if i set up a wireless network, and it happens to be in range, the network 
loads correctly with no delays.

removing auto wlan0 fixes it, but defeats the purpose.

im not using the network manager, since my rt73 wireless card will not
work well with it.
