I experience the same problem here, connecting from a current intrepid
box (i386, also haunted by Bug #255008) via NX to a hardy i386 box. No
combination of "setxkbmap -model pc105", "setxkbmap -model evdev" or
"gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard" on
client or server makes the problem go away.
