I guess bug 291564 is then a potential duplicate.

I think the biggest complaint is, that NetworkManager is successful in
killing my eth0, but no successful in displaying nm-applet.  This makes
it impossible for me to use the network, unless I restart NetworkManager
as root.  Something in the ifupdown plugin feels wrong.

I'll now follow the DebuggingNetworManager procedures to see what
exactly happens.
