But it's different from how kmail worked in Hardy or any previous Kubuntu. Let me try to be clearer: 1. Any email I've received since the upgrade shows the icon (if it has an attachment, that is), even though I've quit and restarted kmail many times since the upgrade. 2. Any email I received before the upgrade and have not clicked on to read since I upgraded does not have the icon. But if I click on such a message containing an attachment, the icon suddenly appears. The key observation is that from that point forward that particular message always displays the attachment icon, even if I quit and restart kmail.
So kmail is not making that decision "from scratch" every time I start it: somewhere, it is storing the results of whether a message has an attachment. The problem is that the upgrade must have deleted this information for all of my old email, or the new kmail is failing to properly interpret the information as it was stored previously. Either way, that's a bug. A somewhat independent question is whether one could get kmail to go back through all my old emails and re-calculate that status of each message. If the bug arises by deleting old information, then that would be the only way to repair the status of old emails. But if the bug is a failure to properly interpret old formats, it's simply a question of fixing the application, and the status of the old mails will be fixed without any additional effort. This bug is one that makes a difference in practice: I might have received hundreds of emails from "Joe" and yet only two messages contain attachments. In my experience, a mail with an attachment is much more likely to be one that I'll want to return to later, so this represents a significant piece of information that saves me considerable time in finding the message I need. -- kmail doesn't always show attachment icon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289875 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
