Unlike Hein van Dam - I do NOT get any message - just the freeze. This could come any firefox dependency. (e.g in libstdc++6 - since firefox 2.0.0.17 wants libstdc++5)
However I do not believe it is in the (sun) java-plugin. It works with other browsers - and it worked with 3.0 beta in 8.04.
