Am having similar problem in Intrepid Ibex. System manager crashes with the error: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Glib::FileError' when I click on the 'Processes' tab. Will run as root (sudo gnome-system-monitor;) My version of gnome-system-monitor is: 2.24.1-0ubuntu1
