Hello, I disabled Compiz, and the process gconfd-2 daemon use less processor (it is not in the top precesses anymore). The laptop is an old Toshiba Tecra, with a centrino 1.4 GHz, 500 MiB Ram and an ATI Radeon Mobility 9000.
