Bryce, Hi. Sometime ago I changed my Ubuntu installations for Debian Lenny. Even three months ago, this fixed the problems with Virtualbox, and also with some suspend resume issues. I strongly suspect that the 2.6.24 kernel of Hardy was the problem; since I moved to Debian I've been using 2.6.26. I doubt there is much difference in the xserver versions between Lenny and Hardy.
