I have an alternate solution; I installed Firefox 3.1 beta 2 [pre] (I imagine any other Firefox version might work). I ran Firefox once under the alternate version, and the new version started in an un-maximized state. I quit the alternate version.
After starting my target version again (3.0 in my case), Firefox starts in my desired un-maximized state. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/ Rod. -- The firefox window takes up all of the screen, impossible to reduce size and cannot access the close, reduce and clear screen options. The page also flickers when the mouse passes over certain areas of the screen.
