Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub
I installed successfully Ubuntu 8.10 on a PC that previously had a Ubuntu 7.10 / Windows XP dual boot. For a clean install I chose to format the root partition, and leave the others untouched. Ubuntu 8.10 boots correctly from Grub, but Windows XP is broken (It says "Disk write error" the first time I select it, and after this error any choice from the Grub menu results in a "wrong number of cylinders" kind of error, and I have to physically reboot the PC to be able to boot again). Apparently, no data was lost in the process ; all the data from the linux home partition and the windows partition seem there. I tried removing all the boot options manually for the Windows menu entry in Grub, but to no avail. Would this be a problem with the default Grub options, by any chance ? ** Affects: grub (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- windows xp won't boot from Grub (Disk write error) / Ubuntu 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295115 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
