I have tried that and it doesn't help.. :( I don't think that it has something to do with the chipset because my SATA hard disk is working ok. The DVD drive is PATA Panasonic (matshita) UJ870. Maybe this drive is not supported by libata. But it was working fine with ide modules. I don't think it is a good idea to leave out these modules from ubuntu kernel since there maybe some older hardware that isn't supported from libata yet.
