Public bug reported: Binary package hint: konsole
I've upgraded to Intrepid only this weekend. I normaly have a fullscreen console without any extras (menu/tab bar, deco, scrollbar all off) open on one of my desktops that I use in KDE. Today I've left for break and left my console desktop session open. When I returned I noticed that my laptop fan, which I seldomly hear, was running, Indicating me that something cpu heavy was going on for quite awhile. I started top on the console and saw Xorg taking up ~30 % user and ~20 % system load. Fiddling around I found out that the load drops to normal (~97 % idle) instantly when I switch to another desktop. I suspected Konsole's transparency to have something to do with that, but surprisingly that turned out not to be true. Load stays up regardless of the transparency setting. I then tried to figure out whether the problem was the Konsole window overlapping my sysinfo plasmoid, and when I left fullscreen mode and restored (de-maximized) Konsole to be a normal window again, the cpu load dropped to normal in an instance. So the odd thing is that I can toggle the behavior just by maximizing and restoring Konsole. I've decided not to file a bug with KDE since Intrepid ships with KDE 4.1.3 which seems to be some kind of hot build, not officially supported yet by KDE. PCMIIW.
