Moreover, if you switch Nautilus to Tree View, and try to open the tree (not click the directory, just click the triangle to open the tree) on a directory such as /usr/share that contains around 300 other directories (325 on my system), it in not slow, it is EXCRUCIATINGLY slow! On my system (laptop Core 2 Duo / 2,4GHz, 4GB RAM, / on ext3 partition) I killed the tree opening after 10 minutes on my watch. The killing process itself needs 30 seconds! All the time processor was at 100% and the disk didn't seem to be seeking a lot. When assistive technology is turned off, it opens in no time (less than 1 sec). This is really a bad thing for accessibility which ought to be part of Free Software philosophy.
