I've got a Dell 6400 hundred as well, and just want to add that in my case when the keyboard stops working, no switching to VT and back gets the keyboard working again in X/Kwin (I'm using Kubuntu 8.10). Mouse works fine, but keyboard just stops working. It works on the VTs, but not in X.
