Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xrandr

Two computers running Ubuntu Intrepid are connected in a local network.
On each one I can execute xrandr in a terminal and get a proper
response.

However, when I open a terminal and ssh from either computer into the
other computer, and execute xrandr, I get a "Can't open display"
response. When I ssh via X tunnel into the other computer, I get a
response, which is always the setting from the local computer, not from
the remote one, in which I am executing the command.

I am having display problems on one computer, so need to access
remotely. Xrandr is of no help here. And why do I need to X tunnel, when
all commands and responses are made/given in the terminal?

** Affects: xrandr (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
