Update: The "fix" did not work, Ubuntu is locked out. ** Description changed:
I downloaded the "15 day trial" DEB installer from SageTV website. + http://www.sagetv.com/postDL.php?tmpFile=linuxweb/sagetv-server_6.4.8_i386.deb During the package installation, Sage asks for an activation key. I have none, and just wanted to test the 15 day trial. Program refused to continue to install (without activation key), so I quit the installer window. During the next boot, Ubuntu drops to the text message and displays: "Starting SageTV server: sagetvChanging to SageTV directory /opt/sagetv/server Please enter your activation key..." Tried to CTRL-everything to at least get back to Ubuntu X server to uninstall the program, but nothing continues the boot process. I do realize that SageTV messed up. The problem is that NO PROGRAM should break Ubuntu from starting up. Finally, to "fix" the problem, the user must: 1. CTRL+ALT+F1 2. sudo apt-get remove sagetv-server This problem happened to others and solution is posted at: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31151 ** Tags added: boot sagetv -- Installing Sagetv (without activation key) breaks ubuntu boot-up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298179 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
