I have a similar problem, Networkmanager 0.7 hangs or crashes my laptop (Dell xps m1330, Ubuntu Intrepid ibex 8.10) when I attempt to connect to a 3G internet account (Three Australia) via my USB connected Nokia E65 mobile phone.
When I plug my device in, Networkmanager recognises it and runs the configuration wizard. Once the configuration is complete, the network is listed, but if I select it (to test the connection) the whole system locks/freezes/hangs and I have to hard reboot. I'd love to give you more information to isolate the problem - just tell me which commands/logfiles to run.
