I'm looking at the unix display code in my spare time since no one in
Ubuntu is looking at this.

I have a workaround that I found in a povray forum
(http://news.povray.org/povray.unix/thread/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/).
If you add "-visual DirectColor" to the command line the problem goes
away, at least for me.  I think you can set this in your povray.conf or
ini file to be permanent.

The problem has something to do with how povray is writing the pixel
information in to the window.  Oddly enough I recall seeing a similar
problem in the "Loading..." window for Unreal Tournament 2004, so
perhaps this is some common mistake made in pure (not using a toolkit
like gtk or qt) X apps.  I will keep poking at it.
