I have the same situation as Visitor.Q, TV-Out is recognized by randr but the output is black/white (Ubuntu 8.10, Intel GMA950). According to intel the black/white problem is in most cases related to wrong settings for tv standard http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-006338.htm
