When you download them with the software instead of a browser (Firefox, Konqueror...), they are downloaded and installed. If they don't appear in the list, that must be because they are incompatible. If you use the "Install" button, it ask you for a directory because that button is used when you download the themes yourself, from a browser.
Try installing a lot of themes from the software, and maybe you find some of them in the list.
