After making the change, elisa starts, but it shows a blank screen. For
close to a half second or so, I can see the icons, but after that
everything disappears and the whole screen goes blank. Is there a way to
get this working? It appears to me that after starting up, Elisa runs
into Bug #281757.

Attaching output of elisa -t > elisa.log again. Changing use_gtk
parameter as follows temporarily brings back the icons (I don't know if
that is a solution. It worked once, and is working now. But in between
it refused to work and I don't know if it will continue to work later
on. It seems like a stop-gap arrangement. Elisa works when it feels
like, otherwise it gives a big headache to the user.):

[frontend1]
frontend = 'pigment.pigment_frontend:PigmentFrontend'
theme = 'elisa.plugins.poblesec'
controller_path = '/poblesec'
touchscreen = '0'
use_gtk = '1'
window_width = '0'
headless = '0'
start_fullscreen = '1'

But now a major problem is that Elisa runs very slowly. It accepts key
hits only once in a second or two seconds. Is this some other bug? Can
you please direct me so that I can report there? I don't find a bug for
slow response from Elisa. If you can confirm that this seems like a new
bug, I'll report.

Elisa seems to have been shipped with a lot of bugs. (Or are these
'bugs' really features? LOL!) I'm trying to report as many of them as I
encounter.
