I've just taken the computer back and gotten a new one, but I'm a little reluctant to install Ubuntu on it at the moment. However, I did discover when the tech was checking it that the video card did work fine with a monitor output, so it may be the LCD panel which is at fault. Is it possible that it was sending invalid modelines and Ubuntu could have broken it by putting it in an invalid mode?
