as i understand it from my observations is that the whole application OO will not refresh its graphics. this causes buttons to appear and disappear, but also leaves the process-bar on the status bar once it is ready. to have the satus-bar refreshed, i need to move the OO window around. the same thing goes for deleted text: instead of disappearing, it remains full or half drawn, but once i move the OO-window, it refreshes and the deleted words disappear.
