Bug 245946 deals ONLY with dist-upgrade to 8.10 where system sound can be heard, but no others. If you have different symptoms, please do not post them to this bug report. 1) Try the fixes detailed in 'HOWTO: PulseAudio Fixes & System-Wide Equalizer Support' at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=789578 . This article really should resolve most of the problems for users who dist-upgraded from 8.04. If it fixes your problem, please don't post the fact to this bug report - it adds noise.
