Hi together, I think I found the reason for the beep and the white screen that sometimes occurs: I edited my /boot/grub/menu.lst. There is a line for the defoptions. Here is the line causing the beep: -----%<----- # defoptions=splash=quiet -----%<----- And here without the beep: -----%<----- # defoptions=quiet splash=quiet -----%<-----
Omitting the "quiet" itself adds text below the ubuntu logo with the current boot actions. I have a Dell XPS M1530, too. But I think, the reason is the boot text turned on. Can you confirm this?
