Public bug reported: On trying to use the scanner Canon MP610 on a fresh Ubuntu 8.10 installation, xsane scans but after it finished i get an error message "Fehler beim Lesen: Fehler während I/O" (means: Error on reading: Error while I/O) This is also what scanimage outputs.

The proprietary scanner driver directly from canon also does not work. I also tried to use different USB ports without success.
