We should still define some kind of default, perhaps based on region. You may not need Mongolian right away, but it might be annoying to have to regularly deal with pop-ups that tell you to install a font. It kind of bugs me, like Richard Hughes remarked in that blog post, that you cannot easily turn off the notifications.
